Adopted Love

I  became a mother today 
But quite in an unusual way
I waited anxiously to be told
But when she came my arms were cold
My heart now filled with joy and pain
The sun still shining through the rain
I could somehow feel her in the air
As I envisioned the color of her hair
Somewhere thousands of miles away
A little girl became my daughter today
She opened her eyes to see the light
But was quickly confused by the sight
She heard these voices all around 
But could not understand a sound
Where was the voice that she longed to hear
She listened hard but it was not there
A mother who shared her eyes began to cry
This pain inside her would never die
This mother will never be the same
As another gives her child a name
Her tears stained the paper that she was to sign
And suddenly this child was mine
My sweet Kaya from her you shall depart
But a piece of you always remains within her heart
