A Grave of Green Kisses
It's only me
flooding the desert
with these tears
I bring you this plague of memories
my swarm of weeds
that mock and stifle the heart
I seek peace
but there is nothing still
no revelation here
no brave flag
proud proclamation
of saving grace
I find no mystery
beside bold words
nor comfort from sentiment
etched cold in marble
for beyond it I know
the soul has no home
There is only the earth
unburdening barren fruit
its bitter banquet of bones
a feast of dust seasoned grimly
with a miserly pinch of hope
But do not judge
or fret upon my weakness
at least you may be certain of your fate
while I must strive
for heaven's unknown truth
if only to believe
my puny spirit could
flooding the desert
with these tears
I bring you this plague of memories
my swarm of weeds
that mock and stifle the heart
I seek peace
but there is nothing still
no revelation here
no brave flag
proud proclamation
of saving grace
I find no mystery
beside bold words
nor comfort from sentiment
etched cold in marble
for beyond it I know
the soul has no home
There is only the earth
unburdening barren fruit
its bitter banquet of bones
a feast of dust seasoned grimly
with a miserly pinch of hope
But do not judge
