The Stuff
The fire brigade was handing out buckets
and each one filled to the brim,
and as they passed the buckets along
the word was a code to him:
"Here's the stuff that you'll be needing,
and this is the stuff you'll need;
it won't be enough,
it's filled with fluff,
so another one soon you'll need."
And as the fireman handed along
and banded in the song
and made the job go sound
they handed each one
another bucket
and that's how they got round.
The story would end
with a steamy smoke
if this were a fire brigade,
but then again
they handed out nails,
and thus the bridge was made:
"Here's the stuff that you'll be needing,
and this is the stuff you'll need;
it won't be enough,
it's filled with fluff,
so another one soon you'll need."
This might seem the story told
except that every weather
is filled with stories incomplete
and metaphoric tether.
So, whether it's fire, the rain,
or the flood that comes on crashing through
it's always a constant driving train
that carries on with you:
"Here's the stuff that you'll be needing,
and this is the stuff you'll need;
it won't be enough,
it's filled with fluff,
so another one soon you'll need."
