Words from a Dead Husband

If you're reading this, my dearest wife
as you know I am with you no longer
I can only hope my spirit might yet linger
to make these words last for time enough
to ease the terrible guilt
I realize you must feel

Please do not think badly of me
On a perfect summer's day
you may still sense me
gently kissing your shadow
or warming the chill in your bed
through frozen nights
of pillow hugging dread

I have pledged
to keep one eye on your soul
always
for that is my destiny now

We traveled far together, my dear
you and I were inseparable
and infinite horizons
could never quench our hearts

How could I forget
the vision of you in a red silk dress
tresses flowing
smiling like a proud princess
as you plunged the knife
into the heart of this hapless fool
I only strayed once from the path
but your revenge was swift and cruel

You murdering bitch
Thank fuck I'm up here
with not a snowflake in hell's chance
you'll be following any time soon

It would need
one too many miracles
to make an angel out of you
Your asshole was always
bigger than your mouth
you always were
a jealous crock of shitt
