Ode to The Blade

When I need to escape, you’re there, waiting
When I just can’t take it anymore, you’re there, willing
you know exactly what I want and I need
you’re just sharp enough to do my damage
but not enough to end the world
as I turn you over in my palm I shudder, anticipating
not yet
I want this to be a clean cut
I gently and lovingly sharpen you to pointy perfection
Now we’re ready
I sit with my legs crossed on the coarse, dirty carpet of my bedroom
I rest my left hand on my knee, palm up
Slowly, almost as if to savor the moment, I push up the sleeve of my ratty, old sky blue sweatshirt
I grasp you tightly in the shaking fingers of my right hand, poised and ready to strike
I pause, close my eyes and take a deep breath
In a swift, well practiced blur, you descend upon my waiting flesh
I gasp at the initial sting, then slowly release the captured breath, a slight moan escaping
My stiffened body relaxes as I feel all dark emotions slowly bleed out
I smile
This is happiness, this is bliss
I love you.
