The Calamity of "Calm"
I possess a burden;
Unwanted and relentless.
It steals the strength from my containment,
Leaving loath rather than lagniappe—
The gift depletes me of wisdom
And drains the nectar
Of morality from within;
Revealing the sinews that bind this shell.
And I stomp gallantly about—
Striding by, blind.
With my intentions of defending
What little is left of my self-worth,
The sky drops from above
And I walk lethargically upon the clouds
Oblivious to the plane headed
In my direction,
I crash into the metal beast
At an attempt to reinforce my casing of self;
Leaving behind fatal debris,
Each and every time.
Unwanted and relentless.
It steals the strength from my containment,
Leaving loath rather than lagniappe—
The gift depletes me of wisdom
And drains the nectar
Of morality from within;
Revealing the sinews that bind this shell.
And I stomp gallantly about—
Striding by, blind.
With my intentions of defending
What little is left of my self-worth,
The sky drops from above
And I walk lethargically upon the clouds
Oblivious to the plane headed
In my direction,
I crash into the metal beast
At an attempt to reinforce my casing of self;
Leaving behind fatal debris,
Each and every time.
