Wings of Icarus

In the ivory clouds bathed in sunset

He steadily soars far above any

weakness, worry, or desire

Only wishing to climb higher

A boy much like you and me

embracing the wonder of being free

On the wax wings of eagles, they soar

Father and son united in flight

Gliding together at such height

Escaping a past of opression

due to their avian extensions

As wet wax begins to drip down

from the stretched wings of Icarus

The steady rise suddenly disappears

Confirming the worst of his father's fears..

Winged boy quickly drops from the air

and his lungs, trapped in the ocean's snare
