Heartache
I woke up
with a heartache this morning
after dreaming about him
all night.
His face, his family
but she always lurked at
the edges of my illusions.
his granpa talked to me,
his brother hugged me goodbye,
even Emily called after me.
His eyes met mine
I knew
in a loving farewell.
Because that's when she
filled in my shadow
and took my place next to him.
That's when i woke up.
