Life taught me that

When I was a little girl,
I always dreamt of passing through the clouds
Whether it was by plane or simply flying.
With my feet grounded on the earth,
Looking up at the sky
The clouds seemed like bliss
Soft pillows of peace
And calm
I'd imagine it would be smooth sailing
Across the horizon
Now that I'm older
and I've travelled through the clouds,
They're nothing like I had imagined
No longer do I desire
To pass through clouds
Whether by plane or simply flying.
With my feet off the ground,
Me in the sky looking down,
The clouds became thick pockets
Of fear and uncertainty
White mountainous turbulence
Stretched as far as the eyes can see
Some carry its own storm
lightning, thunder and rain
Now I brace, palm pressed, fist clenched until
I'm passing through clear skies
Watching the clouds float by from a distance
Life has taught me that
the wishes I've made
as a little girl, would haunt me as a women
Wishes to some day fall inlove
Only to be met with heartbreak
Wishes to get older faster
Now living in a cycle of responsibilities
I've learnt the hard way that some clouds
No matter how safe,
If you stay in it for too long
You'd be met with pitch darkness.
