Without Compassion

In shadows cast by anger’s blaze
roaming with sorrow’s heavy heart
in a world where kindness fades
and empathy seems torn apart
 
Afraid for all of humanity  
as fury seethes, tears away
leaving each in separation
and resentment leads the way
 
Compassion ceases to exist
darkness seeps into the soul
living in this sullen time
we are no longer whole
 
Where mercy’s song is ignored
fearing what lies ahead, unseen
as we wander in the dark
where no places are serene
 
Lacking love that kept us grounded
hearts are lost in incensed rage
what will become of us all
in this cruel, unfeeling age?
