Cost of Addiction

In the cramped confines of her daily life,
her words of love and desire were muffled
against the chest of unfaithful men.
Their daily harvesting of her gave
the illusion of love in a chaotic home.

In her dance of survival and despair,
she was a flicker of warmth in the gloom,
her tender lips crafting moments of care and affection,
yet each act of love drained her spirit.
At day's end, she bore stories of a mother's toil
and the scars of a woman given to pleasure.

She sought and found comfort in many men,
then turned to a deceptive friend—
a chemical’s soft muting of her pain.
Initially a companion, the addiction deceived,
dimming her radiance.
Her eyes, once brimming with dreams,
clouded with storms of unbridled desire
that turned her nurturing into insatiable yearning.

Now, her home is quiet, her laughter and cries
replaced by the soft, ecstatic moans of a kind woman
who sees after her child and fucks the unfaithful father.
