Second Course
In cast iron my fate flounders fluid
Against the heat I meet an old teacher
As chalkboard teeth feed me heartful, lucid
Eye to eye with a mad tearful reaper
Sober on the stormfront, shipwrecked, fragile
I fumble through the pass, deep sinks honor
Awake at sea I become the landfill
Waste so tall there's a view from the harbor
And along the way it snuck in candid
A mystic hand pulls me back with ferver
Each whisper a coral dagger splendid
Laying the lines for light much grander
Like spells stoked out of sequence
I learn part of me could never leave her.
