In a Date
In a date with your ghost,
Listening to songs from your playlist,
The hot drink I made went cold
As I stared at the picture I kept.
In a date with you,
Just like I always wished,
I bought us your favorite dessert—
The one I hated the most.
I almost spat my first ever bite,
Tried again and again
To like it the way I liked you,
So I could slowly get used
To the taste of this cheesecake
And your absence’s aftertaste.
Yet the bitter tang still hangs in my throat.
In a date with the unmoving image of you,
The tears I’ve shed,
Agonizing tunes that smothered my heart,
Unfinished, flavorless treats,
Hidden letters with the moon, unsent,
Useless poetry you’ve never read.
I’m starting to despise it all,
When you’re no longer here.
