Image for the poem Dead Life

Dead Life

A heavy rope moored my ankles
with an anchor yanking me to fall,
dragging me across the scathing lava
to sink down the hollow well,
like being swallowed by quicksand,
buried away from the sunshine,
slowly rotting with the dark bitumen void
while maggots consume this dead life.
