Psalm for My Older Love

Gaze long upon another's charm, her beauty's a fleeting flower,
For many a soul have fallen prey to her sweet seductive power.

As flames ignite from but a spark, so passion may consume,
The  wise must run to folly's end, the righteous to their doom.

Why boast, O man, of flesh and bone, of dust and ashes proud?
When sin entwines like ivy's grip, it hides the soul in shroud.

In love's embrace with this woman bound, let wisdom's voice be clear,
Remember well her mortal end and hold your reverence dear.

For when her beating heart finds death as all the living must,
Her beauty for which you lust this night will soon be home to dust.

Now part her velvet curtains as men have done before,
And place your lust within her trust for soon she’ll be no more.

Author's Note
The inspiration for this came while making love to my elderly neighbor. Her husband died last year and I've had the honor of helping her cope with loneliness. It's an affair of convenience but I know that considering her age and life style, she's likely to die soon.
