Nature's Oddities

The koala dreams in slumber deep,
The laziest soul, you will ever meet.
Crocodiles, fierce with toothy might,
Yet tongue remains—a hidden plight.

The starfish drifts with mind uncast,
No brain within, yet journeys vast.
And slugs, with noses—four in place,
Crawl slowly, silent through the space.

A tricolor feline, mostly dame,
With coat of patch and spotted frame.
The cockroach, ancient, dust-strewn sprite,
Outlived the giants in its flight.

Bees, they buzz both forth and back,
While hummingbirds in prowess lack.
A flea may bound, to heights unseen,
While mosquitoes bite— females mean,
They annoy us through the night,
Biting endless now out of sight.

In Arctic realms, a bear’s black skin,
Beneath white fur it hides within.
The bat takes wing, a mammal rare,
In midnight air without compare.

A kangaroo’s small bean-sized start,
Three hearts beat strong in octopus art.
Owls’ eyes are orbs, not spheres to see,
And butterflies taste with feet you see,
makes everything so delectably.
