The Effects Of Words
Trying on some different words tonight
Searching for some forgotten intangible
Combinations grow crucial in this fight
A stiff uppercut snaps a glass mandible
Showing off with big words gets boring
It often comes off shallow and pedantic
There are a lot of rules I end up ignoring
File all my work under hopeless romantic
Sometimes I’m quite fond of juicy words
Sexy, seductive, always along for the ride
Lustful breadcrumbs attracts all the birds
Rocking back and forth with a gentle tide
Enlightened words can bring love and hope
Inspiring poets to chronicle about humanity
Holding the real world under a microscope
Sometimes leaves me questioning my sanity
Searching for some forgotten intangible
Combinations grow crucial in this fight
A stiff uppercut snaps a glass mandible
Showing off with big words gets boring
It often comes off shallow and pedantic
There are a lot of rules I end up ignoring
File all my work under hopeless romantic
Sometimes I’m quite fond of juicy words
Sexy, seductive, always along for the ride
Lustful breadcrumbs attracts all the birds
Rocking back and forth with a gentle tide
Enlightened words can bring love and hope
Inspiring poets to chronicle about humanity
Holding the real world under a microscope
Sometimes leaves me questioning my sanity

Author's Note
Late night musing. Sometimes I just like playing with words, how about you? What's the worse that could happen? Appreciate you.

" Does it seem cold in here to you?
What's there to do tonight, anything?
Give me another cigarette
Is there anything left in that bottle?
Yeah-Give it here"

Superb Damian, that's what I'm in it for haha... I've always loved the English language and wordplay, I may sound a bit of an anorak here, a square I think you guys call it haha but I've always loved scrabble too 🙃❤️

You're far from square, Pete. Or an anorak as you stated. You're a talented poet, brother. And like all poets/poetesses you have a love affair with words. We're speaking the same language here, we're adults who are above semantics. Thanks for reading and your commentary. Appreciate you.

That last line hit me & I read it on repeat for a minute. Words are both gift & curse at times. This piece is amazing

Like in music, I always try to speak with simple words. Your ability to ryhme with rhythm really helps when reading your poems. I agree with all you've said here.
It's always a pleasure to read your work. Your consistency makes me confident each post is going to be good.

Word play - I love it. I do that too, play with words - it balances the more personal / vulnerable pieces.
"File all my work under hopeless romantic" > this line made me chuckle. I used to say I'm allergic to romance (probably some kind of protection mechanism) but I'm a hopeless romantic too.
That last stanza really stands out for me, enlightened words truly can bring love and hope. I question my sanity on a regular base, you're not alone. Great piece, Damian.
