Risking Elimination

Falling victim to such a subtle threat
Caught in another downward spiral
Injustice bankrupts a soul with debt
Watching as the situation goes viral

Smiling beneath this fractured mask
While trying to save face among peers
Seems this ego has been taken to task
Growing claustrophobic in holding fears

Withering inside from a lack of identity
Washed away in this constant torment
Finding stability within a cult like entity
Suppressing love in a heart so dormant

Sleeping with desires often manipulated
Unable to speak about what took place
Secrets are never meant to be articulated
Without risking elimination from the race

Author's Note
Late night musing. I often ponder on how low one's self-esteem has to be to give up one's identity to become part of a group, cult, or society. We're talking dark places here with the kinda secrets that gets you killed. The one's we can find current examples of at the music award ceremonies. Not including the ones who remain a mystery. By the way the artwork I chose is just a popular example of elimination. That and I dig mafia movies, and am a fan of Joe Pesci's work. Appreciate you.
