Elegy for the Unseen

They said it was a tragedy, but only after you were gone,  
When silence became your loudest scream,  
They turned away, ignored the dawn,  
Of a pain they chose to deem a fleeting dream.

"Attention-seeking," they muttered, cold,  
While your soul unraveled in quiet despair,  
They never stayed to hear your stories told,  
Too blind, too busy, too wrapped in their own air.

Now they stand here, too late to care,  
Gathered in grief where you once stood,  
They wipe their tears, claim life’s unfair,  
When you begged for help, they never understood.

The weight of your pain, they brushed aside,  
Irritated, annoyed, as you fought to survive,  
Now they choke on the guilt they can’t hide,  
In the silence where you once felt alive.

They said they'd "see the signs," but never did,  
Pretended your sorrow wasn’t real,  
Dismissed the tears that you always hid,  
But now they're haunted by the scars they failed to heal.

Everyone here, now weeping too late,  
Wishing they'd listened before your goodbye,  
But the world only mourns at the closed gate,  
After you chose to let go and fly.

No one believed you'd really leave,  
They thought you were bluffing, thought you'd stay,  
But they never saw the truth beneath your sleeve,  
Until the light faded and you slipped away.

They didn't believe, they didn’t care,  
When your heart screamed louder than words could show,  
Now they stand broken, caught unaware,  
Of the agony they’ll never truly know.

You were crying for help, they turned their backs,  
And now they cry for a life they couldn’t save,  
But all they gave you were shallow acts,  
And now their tears fall over your grave.
