A poem for each day of the month in which I was born
October 10
october nights
october nights are steamy rendezvous
wherein some men, impassioned by stiff booze,
forfeit their balance on the dancing floors
of candle-lighted dens and abattoirs.
october nights are oft a masquerade
for damsels dimpled by demure charade,
whose airs are lofty as the shingled roof
that, in the cutting wind, stands not foolproof.
october nights are pizza feasting days,
when crusts and fillings appetites amaze,
insatiate. the bellowing of burps
the music of the in-house band usurps.
october nights are filled with pipe and horn
when, in the thrust of one night, i am born.
i weep, because the womb that kept me warm
my tethering has severed without charm.
october nights are cosy in my bed,
where sleep i as the quick, not as the dead.
october flights, in concord-chartered lifts,
shall scale new heights, when time his home-gears shifts.

I'm really enjoying these solar return offerings, Cabcool. They contain many elements, from sadness to playfulness; however, the largest common thread is hope.

I believe you have summed it up expertly, Ahavati. These October poems borrow their emotions from all walks of life and experience, and though some encounter occurs with the bitter thrust of earth, there is always that saving grace that promises to set all things right.
