Asheville

I spent a week with no power after hurricane Helene swept up through Florida and Georgia, and into South Carolina. The lower end of the neighborhood flooded when the Saluda river overflowed and backed up the creek. A lot of trees and powerlines down.  There were gas lines and then food lines as restaurants reopened. We weren't expecting what we got. We took a hit.

We took a hit but western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee took a beat down. This past weekend I joined a group of volunteers and went to Asheville to help do what we could do. Restaurants were closed due to lack of sanitary water. The power was out. And as you drove past one neighborhood that looked just fine, the next one would look like a bomb went off. Trees down everywhere. We helped the best we could with chainsaws and hauling wood to the street for pickup...some day.

We didn't get into the worst areas, just around Asheville/Black Mountain. I wish I could have done more. People there are really struggling to survive in some areas.

I couldn’t get the video to upload so I posted a picture of one of our team clearing a roof.

Author's Note
No poems or rhymes. Just if you can, help any way you can, even if all you have is positive thoughts and prayers. Hurricane Milton is coming for Florida and I fear these poor people will be forgotten in the next news cycle.
