Horror Poet
one of my firsts was Sylvia Plath
just like sad college girls
the world over
but I knew what people meant
when they said
that her work was obsessed with death
preening, diseased, and cruel
and all I could say
was that I liked it that way
and liked that she went to places
uncouth for women poets of that time…
that if the masculine could be
masturbatory, grim, and raving at the swell
of past
so could the feminine…
and that she took the nursery rhyme
and moulded it to fit
the Reaper’s vocal cords
just like sad college girls

Plath was an 8th house baby—Scorpio: Facing fears, Death and rebirth, transformation, profound change through intimacy, karmic connections ( she and Ted definitely had one ), secrets, legacies, research, sexuality. She epitomized the shadow of the sign. The lies and betrayal were just too much for her regardless of how much she loved her children.
I've studied her natal chart, and it's somewhat sad. With her Venus and Jupiter in their Virgo fall, Neptune in its Virgo detriment, and Scorpio Sun squaring a dominant Capricorn Saturn, it was just too big of a mountain for her to climb from the valley of her pain. Her Mars in Leo squaring her Mercury in Scorpio didn't add any verbal communication suave outside of being straightforward and often misunderstood until the point of withdrawal into herself. With her Moon being in Libra there was such a desire for balance and peace, impossible to attain in a toxic relationship.
Escapism became a part of her life. I hope next time she makes it to the top of that mountain and shakes the earth with her voice.
