The lovers of the bridge
They had met before, they both knew it, even if the years had added lines to their faces and their skin showed some of the battles they had encountered. Still, they looked good and they knew it.
They also knew they had met and wanted each other almost furiously in faraway days. They remembered their brief encounters and they knew they would do whatever it took to recreate them.
“It is good to see you again,” he said while holding his glass of wine.
“Thank you, likewise. I never thought I would meet you again at a vernissage.”
“You never thought I liked Art.? Too rough to enjoy it?”
She smiled and answered, “ I knew you enjoyed art. I just never thought I would see you again.”
“Well, it seems fate has proven both of us wrong. I never thought I would see you again myself.”
“And now you are glad?”
“Yes, sure. Are you?”
“I am.” She felt no need to lie. Not to him. She remembered all the things he had brought to life in her, all the sensations he had awakened in her, opening her up to him and leaving her satiated and still wanting more.
“Well, maybe we should…” he stopped halfway through his sentence, thinking the fact she was alone at that moment did not mean she was not engaged or married. Well, he was at least but he did not care, not at that moment, not with her. After all, he only cared to have sex with her and he was pretty sure that was all she wanted from him as well. He had always liked her for that, he never had to lie to her faking feelings of love he did not feel in her case and she had never plagued him with romantic notions.
“Should we do something about it?”
“I think so...do you?”
“Perhaps.” She left it at that, the air was thick with her words and the tension they caused.
“Well, think about it, I have to get something to drink, would you like anything?”
“No, thanks,”
When he turned on his way to the door to catch the waiter serving drinks she fixed her eyes on his back. It was as broad as ever and he still walked as if the world belonged to him. And she felt she wanted him as much as she had wanted him before. She would have undressed for him in the very spot where she was standing , eager to feel his hands on her body and his desire for her intact , in spite of the years and their obstinate silence..
