Bird-Dog
I've been living in a tree
with a three legged dog
to keep me company.
He lies by the fire and wags his tail
to the smell of burning leaves.
There's a ladder to the ground
going halfway down
so I'm never sure what's coming
and though he loves to go for walkies
he doesn't do much running.
He couldn't chase a cat
or fetch a tennis ball
but he likes to sniff and pee
and to get back in the tree house
he clambers on his knees.
He'll eat a bird for dinner
when it lands upon his nose
then he spits out all the feathers
after scrunching
up the bones.
Now perhaps I am mistaken
but here's the strangest thing
his bark sounds like
"tweet tweet"
so I think he may grow wings
