Unposted Poems I

1.

There’s only so far I can run,
Before it would’ve been better to just have been thrown.

2.

Seven minutes later,
Lapping up the sea water.
Running my hand through the reflection,
Watching the ripples distort my face looking back.
I cannot recognize my own eyes,
I cannot find my pupils.
Hand in hand,
I’ll get swept beneath the waves.

3.

I think I want to talk out of a second hole in my face,
in a language no one’s ever heard,
and using words that haven’t been invented yet.

I feel like God made me to suffer,
Or he just gave up when the blood made the bandages to slippery.

4.

You have no right to call me a coward.
Not when I walked the 3 blocks to the train station and ever since moving ever forward.

When you see me clinging to a stop sign, pretend I’m also planted into the ground.
You have no right to assume I’m suffering when I’m crying, or crying at all.

5.

It’s the killer instinct that lets you surrender and bare your throat to the itching pain in your gums.
It’s the prey drive that dilates your pupils and makes you press your teeth to my tongue.

The intensity is simply a product of your carelessness, and the stains are a product of the sounds pouring out of your mouth.
Crying out reasons for your foolishness that cannot turn back the pages being torn out.

6.

The eyes are the window to the soul,
What do you see in mine?

What do you see?

7.

Slight inaccuracies,
Turned into recognized inadequacies.
Introspective analysis,
Interpretation was really just insecurity and false realties.

8.

Staring at the reflection in your eyes,
Wondering why I can’t see what you see.
You see me staring,
You don’t say anything about it.

9.

I am no one’s poet,
Hardly a writer.
Mouthing the words,
Not saying a thing.

10.

He hides in the faces,
He lives among the skeletons.
Baring his bones to the cameras,
Leaving his skin hanging up in his closet.

11.

There’s a child somewhere,
Deep down inside me.
He knocks softly on my belly,
‘Can I come inside?’
I’d never make him sleep on the floor,
He does anyway.
He loves to curl up at the end of the bed,
Sleeping like a dog.
It’s warmer that way.

12.

At some point in time,
We start dying.
And we keep dying,
Until dying becomes death.
And then we start living inside the minds of others.

13.

I’d hold you if you asked.
I know you’ll never ask.
I think I’d hate holding you,
And I’d never want to stop.

14.

This room used to look so much bigger,
With all 5 of us inside.
With just her there,
It seems so small.
So limiting.
Brushing my hand to the ceiling,
I can almost smell the box mac and cheese and hear cheesy horror movie screams.

15.

Forgive me.
I’m sorry.
Pardon me.
I’m sorry.
Excuse me.
I’m sorry.

17.

Drowning in black bile,
Not losing a drop of blood.
A blade so sharp,
You don’t even feel it.

18.

I love you.
Say it with me.
I’ll say it louder.
I love you.
I love you.
I love you.

19.

A good man,
A soldier the same.
They’re dying,
Can you hear it?
Are you listening?

20.

I am dangerous to you.
The cage to your dove.
I will burn you up,
Spit you out wet and crumpled.
I meant nothing by it,
It means nothing at all.
I am your antithesis.
Your opposite.
I’ll kill you,
And eat you alive.
How much longer,
Until you learn to be afraid.
Empty promises,
Words I can’t define.
