Two Truths at Once
‘Men feel pain too.’
What odd timing.
We’re all victims to this patriarchal society where we are expected to ignore the blood dripping down our cheeks and they are expected to lick it from our skin.
We’re all broken down and smashed into overflowing molds made by people who don’t even know our names.
Because Eve was made from Adam’s rib,
Eve will forever be forced to nurse the hole in his side.
Filling the growing cavern with her flesh,
While also nursing his children.
But when I bleed,
No one asks me if I stuck the knife in my own skin.
When I suffer,
No one comes to help me,
But when I die,
I will be remembered as a hero.
They don’t bleed like us,
It clots and congeals quickly,
Self healing because no one would assist.
An endlessly reopening wound that remains untreated.
When we hurt,
We’re expected to fight.
When they hurt,
They can’t fight back.
Even if I’m too exhausted to fight,
My opponent still flinches when I move.
So let me suffer,
For my suffering has an end.
But when they suffer,
There’s always doubt.
Did she really suffer?
Was it all just lies?
The movie magic that stained the roads red for years.
I suffer in my Sunday best,
She suffered in a unicorn onesie.
Man,
I’d choose the bear too.
