Image for the poem mirth

mirth

entering the moodiness blue speaks the loudest
tearing in indigo spilling the feelings collecting
turning inward the sorrow is flooding
rising higher in intensity

speaking melancholy, deep inflection
causing me to question everything
the somberness of the moment leaves me bereft
keening in the energy I laugh awkwardly

feeling oddly out of place
disturbing the happiness of the day
misunderstood by those looking on
why frown on such a sunlit afternoon

tales from the Darkside
as the afternoon is overtaken by shadows
they reach with long fingers chilling me

the others seem oblivious
the grim has overtaken me
haunting my thoughts I begin to hallucinate

a vortex in the room pulls me deeper in
the painful truth is I'm depressed
and the joy of the moment only adds to my hurt

shining on my pain macabre
sinisterly infecting my outlook
until I can bear no more and scream
twisted faces of mirth turn to me uttering silence is best
