Lovers or Losers?

No longer blindfolded
by your antics,
or your words that never rang true.
I’m free of the hold you had on me.
But now what is there for me to do?
I have to reacclimatize to this new life.
A life without you.

I’ve loved you,
much more than I’ve loved myself.
And you see, that’s the problem.
You’re the only thing I’ve ever known.
I was weak for you,
I had no idea how to be strong.
Not even an inkling.
And when this boat went down,
you abandoned ship, even if it meant
leaving me sinking.
And I still took you back,
what the fuck was I thinking?

I should have gave myself more credit.
My mama raised me better than that.
I’m knowledgeable of most things,
but I was an idiot, who fell for your traps.

Love is a gamble,
and I truly thought that I was winning.
And with the hand that we were dealt,
I never saw the ending.
So tell me, are we lovers or losers?
Because this game has gotten old.
I’ve finally mustered up the courage to leave.
Quite frankly, I’ve gotten bold.
It’s just taken me a long time to see.
We are losers, not lovers.
We were never meant to be.

Pulled this one out of the archives, has been unfinished for some time. The trials and tribulations of love or what was assumed to be. No longer pertains to me IRL, just another poem that someone maybe can relate to….
