Words That Don’t Make Sense

Alone,
She says.
I feel alone,
All the time.

I hear her,
I’m sure of that.
Though I feel like I’m fading,
Fleeting and ungraspable.

Hold me down,
I say.
Do not touch me,
A double negative that doesn’t cancel out.

I want to die,
She says.
Maybe just because she can,
Because she can’t.

I chase her,
She stands still.
Two negatives,
Attracted to the repulsion.

Can I help you.
Like a question,
without the question mark.

Coexistence,
Inhabitants of a shrinking island.
Survivors of a sinking ship,
Vacationing in the pacific.

I feel alone,
She says.

Are you?
I ask.

No,
She says.

Emptiness without being hollow,
Unable to be filled.
Unable to be emptied out,

I say.

Maybe,
She says.

Author's Note
Have you ever tried to force two magnets together that just repel each other? They don’t hate each other, they were built that way. I don’t need a matching half, or my opposite. I am ever changing and evolving, I need someone to keep up. You aren’t hopeless, neither am I.
