wynd

“We don't create a fantasy world to escape reality.
We create it to be able to stay.”—Lynda Barry

to keep my head about me,
i take the wynd
into the woods,
finding a place to shout, free
from nerve-ends tined
by ruffled moods.

beside the quiet river,
i rest my case
in solitude,
grasping hope like a sliver
soon to erase
tempers accrued

amidst the madding hurry
of life’s swift grind
and day’s vile curse.
sweet river drinks my worry
till unconfined,
my universe.
