Beautiful Sylvia

With the warm brown skin
Thick dark mane
And light brown eyes
We played as girls
Spoke of our secret loves as teens
And when that shit went down
which cost me my dignity
you sat down with me
saying you were still my friend

Your inner-strength radiated
Your wisdom profound
Your kindness genuine
Your loneliness tangible

I don’t know why we lost contact
I never knew why
You bought that real estate
Never knew your pain
You never let me listen,
never let anyone in

Many years later
I saw you across a room
Your large sad eyes held me
With a warm welcoming smile
You hugged me
 I cried on your shoulder
I didn’t know, God I didn’t know
You only said softly
I glad, my friend

That was the last I saw
Of Beautiful Sylvia

An unknown woman was found today in an hourly
Motel with her throat cut,” the reporter said
.
