A Soulful Reclamation

I had to go,
Escaping the life that tortured me,
Enduring daily retribution
For what I didn't deserve.
Through a heart hardened,
By someone who hated me,
For no reason other than the truth
That I was alive.

The mess, I had to clean up,
No easy task, I can attest.
I've been to hell and back,
These last few years have exhausted me.
I'm trying to reclaim my soul,
That was burned to ash.
Yet, a desire to return burns,
With the passion of a phoenix.

And then you came,
Out of nowhere, one day.
You completely stole my heart,
A welcome first, your words comforted.
I took the pain, it tortured me,
Like a branding iron.

With the sweetest touch of love,
You turned my world upside down.
All the anguish and ache subsided,
And my healing began.
Knowing you were the oasis,
To my arid desert one day,
That I was deeply loved,
Undoubtedly.
