The Party

This is both beautiful and really sad. I used to love clubbing, but it's a different experience since I got sober. I used to be able to go out alone and make out with random strangers, dance til I fell over, smoke a 50 pack of cigarettes in less than 8 hours.

Now, I have to be with the right people. Can't go out alone. Don't drink or smoke cigarettes anymore (and I'm not risking a joint in a crowded public place), and while the memory of the vibe is still there, I can't return to that uninhibited place, and it's definitely a bit lonely.

Yes, it is definitely lonely. I tried going to parties to meet people since I've never really been in a relationship before but it's just not the place for me and I get really uncomfortable. Perhaps we can find a different way to deal with the lonelieness. A way that is more healthy for us.

Sadly meeting people at parties rarely results in the kind of encounter that leads to a functional relationship.

Meeting people can be hard, as introvert, I've always struggled with letting people get close to me, because I'm actually pretty shy irl. For me, writing groups, art groups and spoken word poetry events are where I have some of the nicest people. Also book clubs are worth a try too.
