The Horrors of War
They stripped me of my clothes
I stood naked & shivering in front of a large hole dug in the ground
I turned around and looked down
I saw my mother's corpse below me
Naked & mutilated
I moved over a bit so that when my body fell, I would land next to hers
I felt lucky to have seen her one last time
They had been lying
They told me that she had been dead for months
They told me in detail of how they had tortured her
I looked down at her body
I no longer felt cold
They told me to turn around
I looked to either side of me
We were all lined up naked and pale in the early morning light
The soldiers raised their guns and fired
Our bodies jerked and fell into the hole
The lucky ones died quick
For myself and some others, it took hours
How we wished for death
Other bodies fell upon me
I lost site of my mother
Finally I died
I thrust my head between two corpses and suffocated.
