My Reflection Beyond the Mirror
Mirror, mirror upon the wall who is the prettiest girl one of all?
Mirror, mirror why do you lie? Forcing me to hide all these nasty scars of mine?
Forwards, backwards, I tumble before I notice the subtle colour my eyes have become.
My lips are swollen and so dry from all the blood that has stained them from the past that I had left behind.
Bleed, bleed, bleed is all I say in the back of my mind.
Sorrowful eyes stare back at mine.
Shattered glass has scraped my skin upon my hands.
I gaze into the reflection that stares back at me.
Mirror, mirror shall I ever be beautiful?
I look to you for the softness of the light.
All the while I find darkness instead of the light.
Subtle glances have been given to me while all I share is bitter coldness instead of hate.
Loving your glass is all I can do until I notice you are fading and telling me I shall be here for a very long time.
Mirror, mirror must I fret? With all these chains that I am bound to or so I dread.
I shall not be scared instead I shall be scarred with all these nasty words I hear from afar.
I shall not hide; I shall not die.
Oh, please mirror, mirror upon the wall please do not leave me at all.
Do not leave me in tears or shame, it is you who has become my jailor and friend.
Jealously comes with a heavy price.
But so does love and so does life.

Nicely done. I too struggle with insecurities. I like your usage of the mirror here. Sometimes that mirror image, what we see is not truly a mirror but rather a projection of what we want to perceive. It can also be distorted and twisted in the same way. This is where we must realize that perspective dictates perception which in turn forms our reality. Its not easy but we can change our perspective. We can choose how we view things. We can see the blood stains and the scars and see the resilience in survivng and persisting rather than the focusing on the beatings and losses.
Good write. Continue to let it flow. Continue to be honest with yourself. It is in that honesty that you learn, grow and move forward. Remember too, you are not alone. There are others that are going through the same thing. Find strength and comfort in that. Reach out and you'll be surprised at how many hands will greet yours.

Thank you so much for your encouraging and beautiful comment. I wrote this a long time ago back in 2014. I have always had my insecurities about my image, and still do. However, I do agree with everything that you have said.
