Stepping into the light

Three decades woven with shared stories,
Beneath the neon lights of Big Daddy's,
where laughter mingled with dreams,
Intimacy grew, roots intertwining,
A friendship forged in youth’s gleam.
Shared secrets over drinks, laughter echoing,
our affection blooming amidst the glamor.
We weathered storms, literal and figurative
Katrina scattering us like seeds to the wind.
You chased your dreams, grasping that golden sun,
and from afar, I cheered, my heart full of your triumph.
Through the digital threads that spanned our distance,
I sent you fragments of my soul, My voice in poetry,
“Send me your poems,” you said,
Yet lately, my words echo back hollow,
Read, but unacknowledged, our connection askew.
A question lingered, a void swallowing the echoes of our past.
I asked for your thoughts, a simple gesture,
Met with silence a void cold and stark.
No longer will I send my soul into the void,
Where once was a spark, now dark.
I stand, amid the quiet fallout of our story,
no longer willing to dance in shadows of disregard.
For if my words are mere whispers to you,
I choose to reclaim them, stepping into my own light.
I release the need for your validation,
I am reclaiming my space, my peace, my power
This chapter closed, a new one to begin.
Friendships, like seasons, shift and fade,
and though it pains me, I release the bond that binds.
For in this solitude, I find my strength,
as I let go of echoes and embrace the silence.
For friendships that feed, not just take,
For bonds that heal, not shred.
From the debris of silence, I now walk away,
We were friends in a faded chapter,
Now, I am just someone you once knew, stepping into the light.
