april songs: elements of life 3
april song 13—sand
golden granular for sifting,
where life's rubble keeps on shifting,
let the pride of life not choke me
ere your gentle fingers stroke me.
if by nature i be crooked,
save me when you burn the wicked;
for my manumission story
may to life bequeath a dowry.
all the burdens of the ocean,
through swift surf and crude commotion,
at the waters' edge find refuge,
swirling sand born of dense deluge.
if, by virtue of the wild wind,
life to me should prove too unkind,
let me slumber in my bubble,
ransomed from Miss Fortune's trouble.
