Three Rings
1st Ring
“Marry me”
That is what he asked
On one knee
Ring in his grasp
What should I do
I don’t know what to say
I’m waiting too long
He is looking away.
“Yes”
2nd Ring
We just moved in
The phone began to ring
“Hello”
Not a sound
No one was answering
This happened
Too many times
I recall
With the last ring
It tells it all
3rd Ring
I answered the door
She stood at the step
Ready to fight
For him I guess
“I want him. You need to go away”
This is the girl, that lived two blocks away
She wanted him
She felt it in her soul
Now I will impart on her
What her mother should have told
“You want a man,
who had already taken my hand.
Who is to say
he will not do it to you
the same way?
Don’t shake your head
because what I am saying is true.
Do you think you’re the first?
No, I was you.”
I closed the door
She stood there in fear
Because what I told her
She needed to hear.
It took three rings to give him up
It took three rings…..
