My mother's 72
had a couple of mini strokes
a few years back
needs a lot of medication
just to stay alive
She has newly made plans
for a once in a life time
trip next year
and my first thought
when she told me
was please don't die first

This year, for my 70th birthday, I went on a cruise to the Galapagos. There were 96 people on the cruise. 20 of them, including me, were there within 3 months of their 70th.
Mine was during the cruise.
On September 19th, 6 weeks earlier, I had a heart attack. 100% blockage in one artery.
I had looked forward to seeing those tortoises all my life.
6 weeks later, I was standing 10 feet behind a 100+ year old giant. I went snorkeling with trigger fish and coral. I hiked miles per day.
I really wanted that.
That was 4 months ago.
Given a reason to live, it's amazing what we can do.

Thank you so much for sharing RT. I really want my mum to be able to have this experience. She's had a rough few years and it would means so much to make it.

Dear I,
This poem had me thinking how difficult it is to see our parents age and deal with chronic illness. This is, for me, a loving daughters prayerful wish and I really appreciated the love in this write. H🌷
