It’s been a while
a long while since I’ve sat and looked
spent the spinning moments of a coin
to snapshot a spark of joy amidst life’s chaos
clouds careen off the cragged peak
hills greened and flush with growth
as rain quenched thirst from dust and
brought life to the hills
sheep graze on the grass
the way I savour my first coffee
Corellas careen and squawk their din
at the flared yellow sun as it drowns in the
ocean
the irony of this is not lost behind the scene of white feathers, ostentatious head plumage
the drizzle of rain
the mountains
and the ocean
I woke this morning at 230 am
had a cold shower
goosebumps on my flesh and the ache of bones sloughed down a hungry drain
I shivered and brushed my teeth
the needles of ice made me
feel something I’ve been missing since you left
or since I left you there
with the star struck look of love on your face
my betrayal stinking the air like the
hay on the ground of an abattoir
and I wielded the knife that left
your carotid artery pumping my name into the dirt
and now I sit
watching the sun dip into the ocean
wondering wether I should have
chased you harder
or chased you less
I bite down on my lip
blood trickles thick and flows
like honey into my mouth
the tang of iron is all I deliver
along with a side helping of melancholy
and regret
I reek of it
but the ocean is gorgeous
its cruel beauty reminds me
that it doesn’t care
