Image for the poem Forgive me.

Forgive me.

I used to know a girl,
until she ran out on me.

She taught me to love.
A thing I didn't expect to be.

I learned to live, to feel again
as a child learns the birds and bees.

I dreamt of showing her the stars,
of walking the beach and swimming the seas.

All that is gone.
I guess it wasn't meant to be.

I've hurt her. I know.
But I am not the man she wants me to be.

I told her that once.
I told her, "you'll be hurt. You'll see."

Fate has never written that on me.
To be loved as I want or as they want me to be.

"This is too much for me."
She said. "I can't watch you as you destroy me."

She was right.
That is all I do. I'd make her cry then I flee.

Like a train wreck or a roller coaster.
But I never meant that to be.

I wish her all the best.
I hope she'll be happy as she wants to be.

And I hope one day,
she'll have it in her heart to forgive me.
