maybe he thought himself immune

when my safety is in jeopardy
she's always there for me
my hidden weapon
even I didn't know she existed
until we came together
unexpectedly

always in moments of crisis
she emerges from the aether

the first time...
I watched as she emerged
little fists of fury ablaze
pushing me behind her

so ironic
less than half my size
but so incredibly mighty

I gently took her hand
taking my place at her side
as it always should have been
before we were splintered
healing what had been torn asunder
once & for all

I can't help wondering sometimes
which of us should have survived
perhaps...
this is what was always meant to happen
it is what it is...
the little girl who never grew
& the woman who did
there’s no separating us now
