2 chonks & a granny

cat people tend to be the butt of jokes
you know the old saying...
...crazy cat lady...guilty as charged
let me tell you something though
these ladies saved me
when we entered isolation status
they were my only companions
my motivation to keep moving

Bella is the eldest...rolling into her 16th year
just starting to show signs of dementia
leaving the room & crying...as if to say
I can't remember where I left ya
she always calms when I call out
you'd never know it now...
but in her youth she was a real fireball
used to call her Baby T-rex
she's mellowed over time
at this point she's my lap cat
snuggling with me & our teddy bear
but nobody else can handle her
a rescue...you understand
alone on the streets as a kitten
she has memories of being abandoned

London Fog...also called Boo
she's coming up on 12
& could definitely stand to lose a few pounds
between arthritis in an injured hip & the extra weight
she's become pretty sedate
most activity she sees these days is waddling to the food bowl
...then off to the bathroom
but she's all about the cuddles
she nestles up against me & starts purring...
...instantly knocking me out
my little nap cat

Miss Penny is the baby...at barely 8
the most recent rescue
her previous owner passed in the pandemic at 78
when I got her she was terrified of everyone but me
even now if someone comes in my house
she bolts under the couch
part tonkinese...she was short-changed on legs
but the biggest floof you've ever seen
I call her my showgirl...she's a real beauty
wherever I am...that's where she wants to be
her only real flaw is an addiction to food
thus making her chonk number 2

with each of their distinct personalities
there's one ready whatever my mood
all set to hang out together
though Miss Penny & Boo stay on opposite sides of the bed
not particularly fond of each other
they'll probably never be friends
they keep me conscious of my humanity
how small & insignificant I really am
nothing like the arrogance of cat
to take you down a peg
but if I'm sick...
...I'm sure to be covered in floofs
