Broken pieces

2009
"Apply beneficial caution!" directed Estelle,
from great hardship
(ice just keeps leaving me nervous!).
"Observe! Please quit running!"
(Snow, tripped under vendor's window—
xtreme yelling zone!)

2024
Zip your x-rayed wound very unassumingly,
to start restoring
quintessential promise
of now-metallic limb.
Know joint injuries have great fallout,
ergo: don't consider
breaking
another!

Author's Note
The true story of how I broke my elbow joint into lots of little pieces. Surgery fixed what it could; the injury was life-changing in some ways, but I'm so grateful thay I can still use my arm. I never cared about the four-inch scar that I was left with, but this year I found my own unique way to celebrate both the surgery that helped me, and Left Elbow, mark 2.
