Classic Love
Look carefully and you will see
that scratch etched on vinyl
wasn’t our last song,
it was merely a brief pause,
our penal clause
of all that was virtuous and faulty,
simultaneously.
It wasn’t our capital punishment
but the evolving of merciful-
boundless lyrical lust,
and the bridge and hook was our acoustic love.
I loved playing us in my mind!
Relaxing in the reflection of ‘what use to be’
discovering gold buried in the courage
of pain’s departure,
while hearing memorable melodies.
Stoking the fire and desire burning in me
while you sing to me “You Send Me”……
honest, you do.
You are the…
midnight twirls upon gentle sounds
in harmonies of Zen, melodies of yen
expanding into leads that control heart strings…..tenuous.
But if...
if we could just be brave
in our attempts at capturing passion’s flames
in our story unsung
our pitch perfect song,
where the notes became you, me…
a rich vibrato extension of We,
where falsettos were meant to flow fluidly.
Yes…we are
oldies but goodies,
a timeless record playing past pain
hit rewind in the refrain
replay the smooth flow over memories’ beautiful skin,
drop nostalgic verses
when the needle spins
so I can listen to the vintage love
of what we use to have
then smile, rock and sway to those feelings....
of yesterday.
