a delicate balance

“Talent is God-given:  be humble.  Fame is man-given:  be grateful.
Conceit is self-given:  be careful."―John Wooden

all's not fair in love and war;
each may leave a deadly scar.
even Christ, upon the Cross,
suffered, for His love, great loss.

tread with care in right and wrong;
you may sing a different song,
if the confidence you boast
finds you sleeping at your post.

let loud laughter and soft tears
never find you in arrears;
celebrate with those who joy,
shed a tear with those who cry.

gamble not with life and death;
chance could sip your final breath.
help your brother in his strife;
you may save his very life.
