In Love and War
Driven insane by my sordid soul, a tenuous mercenary to love,
I do find myself amidst the cruel brutality of my tri-angled war.
Bottom of the trench in gambler's fallacy, how long must I endure?
In rampant exuberance, I retrieve the finest poison from the cellar
While I drink away the taboo, your grin tells me to not be afraid
My heart gazes into your light eyes, drunk like a fool, all betrayed.
Your faint, yet fervent frequency, hostage in my head like tinnitus,
Manuka melodies so deafening... Honey, your native tongue, on refrain
Oh the madness to indulge, but oh, yet, the madness to abstain.
Neither hero nor soldier, a cyanide pill gritted between my teeth,
Though sworn to only flirt with blanks, never a real bullet to fire,
I'll cease my love and war, with years in memory just to admire.
