Silent - Return To The House (4)
Two Years Ago, Gavin
'What was all that about' I said when Arthur Harlesden went downstairs.
'He was lying,' Lucy said. 'There's no way Veronica would let someone on
drugs roam around. She didn't warn you when you went in earlier, did she?'
'No.'
'Which proves my point. Arthur's up to someone. There's no one on the premises at all. He's
so shifty and secretive. I'm going after him.'
'Are you sure you want to do that?'
'Totally sure. I'm going to find out what's going on. I'll wait by the bungalow, where his car is.'
'Not a good idea, Lucy. I think you should stay away from Veronica as well. She sounds like she could turn nasty.'
'I'll keep out of her way for now. But I'm going after Arthur. Thanks for your help,
Gavin. I hope everything works out for you. Take care.'
She slipped away before I could say anymore, and I hurried to my room.
After that…well, I didn't exactly lose twenty-four hours or anything, but I don't really recall much of it. Only Philippa and me spending the entire time together, and Terence Harlesden threatening to exclude me from the School.
***
Philippa was waiting for me when I returned to my room, like a tigress hungry for sex.
Nothing else mattered. None of the questions I had for her.
Just Philippa.
