Wild Woman Blues Rewrite
Wild Woman Blues
Accordion swinging to mariachi
when he serenades her senorita blues
on Cinco de Mayo in his Mr. Cool sunglasses
like a piñata stuffed for fiesta
he sings the Zapotec of smoky Oaxaca
Deep in Chiapas blues
Can you spare a peso brother?
No, but my secondhand cigar smoke
Is free as a wild Yaqui maiden
High on Copper Canyon ganja
When the sun sets like a caballero
Ambling past her to the liquor store
Like a Spanish galleon in the Caribbean
Sailing into a Yucatán
Where plantain is sweet as the smile
Of a Mayan maiden chewing a coca leaf
But his mariachi guitar caresses her heart
like the ocean breezes of Isla Mujeres
when the moon is high over the sea
and she learns the art of bamboo
that bends but does not break
when the gales of maidenhood bluster
