Mundane Existence
He goes to the same job everyday.
He comes home to his wife every night.
They rarely touch each other.
Only on special occasions, like birthday's and July 4th.
There not attracted to each other anymore.
They don't make a fuss about it.
A few years back, they were fighting and swearing that they were going to leave one another.
When the fighting subsided, they both realized they were both a bunch of cowards.
Neither one had the courage to go out and meet someone else.
They don't despise one another.
They are friendly roommates waiting for death.

Relationships are work as is anything worth it's salt, it requires serious maintenance, imo... Because if you don't stoke a fire's flames, it goes out... period.
A cautionary poem, indeed.
Btw, I can give you many examples of people I know who live this way. It's probably more common than I think. Hey, it may work for some folks....no judgment. However, personally, I'd rather run screaming naked into swarming bees than live without passion and mutual desire in my life... being touched with careful, yet profoundly erotic intent by my chosen lover is one of my favorite things in the world! I wouldn't want to live without it...
Nice work

I couldn't agree with you more. I know people like this. Some are even in my own family. Sad. I don't judge but without that spark, it's a mundane existence.

This is the sad state of many marriages. More power to the people who get out. You just write straight up truth, gets one thinking.

Yeah I try & write as brutally honest as I can. No fancy words that are going to take 35 reads to make sense of the poem. That's not me. I have family that live like this. It's sad.
As always, I appreciate you.

This is so real to life.
A lot of folks stay in dead relationships simply out of
fear of the unknown.
Solid piece

Huh.
I agree with what they all said. It’s a sad reality that so many people live this way.

This poem hits home so hard. When you're stuck in a dead relationship that probably should never have existed anyway it is hard to leave.

That is the truth. We all have this happen to us somewhere during the relationship. Thank you Zephina for reading and commenting!!
